In this tutorial , you will learn how to give this awesome Torn Paper effect to your Photos in Photoshop and make your Photos look amazing. Creating such effect might look a bit difficult but it is not so just follow the steps mentioned below and learn how to create it for yourself . So let's get started!

Steps on how to give this Paper torn effect to your Photos in Photoshop :-
So the first step is to Replace the background of the model with Plain white background , so for that select model in the image using Quick selection tool


Press ALT(After pressing ALT the + sign will change to -) and left click on your mouse and hover over area to remove a selection


Then click on Refine to get the selection of Hair and edges properly

Then using it left click on your mouse and hover over the Hair and edges of the model which will give you selection of the Hair properly without background in it and after the proper selection click on OK


Now after the selection press CTRL + J to create a duplicate of the selection into new layer

And then make the background layer active by clicking on it

After that go to Create new fill or Adjustment layer icon and select solid color over there


Now in the pop up set the color as White and then click OK

Then keeping the solid color layer active press CTRL and click on Model layer which will give you selection of both the layers at the same time

After that right click on the layer and select Merge layers over there

So this will merge both the layers into single layer and will give you image with white background

Now open the Torn paper image in a new document

Then go back to model image document and then using move tool move the image over to the torn image document


Now press CTRL + T and then go to View and then select Fit on screen over there


Now reduce the opacity of the layer a bit to Place the model image properly on Torn paper image


And now scale down the image by dragging from one corner and press SHIFT while scaling to scale evenly , also place it properly using move tool so that only eyes are visible in the torn part and then click on tick icon


Now increase the opacity back to 100%

Then make the torn paper layer active by clicking on it and then press CTRL + J to create a duplicate of it

Now drag the duplicate torn paper layer to the top


Now make model layer active by clicking on it and then press CTRL + J to create a duplicate of it too

Now drag the model layer to the top

Now press CTRL and click on icon of the Torn paper layer which will give you selection of that layer

And then click on Add layer mask icon which will mask the model layer with the current selection i.e Torn paper's layer selection



Now click on Create new fill or adjustment layer icon and select Black & White over there

Then in the pop up click on Create Clipping mask icon so that it only affect one layer below it and not the rest of the layer


Now make the duplicate torn paper layer active by clicking on it

Then click on Add layer style icon and select Blending options over there

After that click on Drop shadow and then set the following , Opacity : 75% , Angle : 130 deg , Distance : 5px , Spread : 0% , Size : 5px and click OK

Now make the masked model layer active by clicking on it

And then change it's blend mode to Multiply

So this will you your Torn paper effect in Photoshop
