Steps on how to create this awesome Smoke dispersion effect in Photoshop :-
So the first step is to create a duplicate of this Image so for that press CTRL + J
Now make the original background layer active by clicking on it and then select Lasso tool
Now using the tool make selection around the model as shown in the image and make sure that the selection covers the whole
After the selection right click over there and then select Fill option in the pop up
Then selection use as Content-aware in the pop up and then click on OK , so basically this will fill the area of the selection same as that of background
Now to show you what we just did hiding this duplicate layer and then after that unhiding it
Now make the duplicate background layer active by clicking on it and then press CTRL + D to deselect the selection and then select Quick selection tool
Now using quick selection tool select the model in the image (Note : 1. You can increase and decrease the size of the brush by suing [ , ] (Square brackets) . 2. Press ALT and click and then hover over area to deselect a selection )
Then click on Refine edge and then using the brush hover over hair and edges to get the smooth and perfect selection and then click on OK
After the selection , click on Add layer mask icon which will mask the image according to the selection
Now press CTRL + J to create a duplicate of this layer
After that right click on the mask of the duplicate layer and then select Apply layer mask in the pop up
Now hide the layer below it by clicking on the eye icon and then make sure that the top layer is active and then press CTRL + J to create a duplicate of it
Now rename the top layer as Model and the layer below it as Dispersion
Then make the dispersion layer active by clicking on it
After that go to Filter and then select Liquify over there
Now using forward wrap tool drag the image in the direction where you want smoke effect so over here I want smoke in the left direction so I will be dragging it in left direction ( Note : Press CTRL + Z to go a step back) and then click on OK
Now after that press ALT and click on Add layer mask icon which will add layer mask with black color in it
Now make the Model layer active and then click on Add layer mask icon which will add the Normal mask i.e with White
Now select brush tool and make the foreground color black
Now select Toggle brush panel icon and then select any Smoke brush from it
Then set any Angle and size for the brush for now
Now using brush click on the left side edge of the model , so this will remove the part of the in the form of smoke brush so like this way remove the whole left edge side of the model using brush and keep changing brush and it's size also it's angle so it does not look even (Note : You can press CTRL + Z to go a step back )
Now make the mask of the Dispersion layer active by clicking on it and then change the foreground color to White
Now again select any smoke brush for now and set any size and angle for it and the using it click on the image , so as you can see it brings back the Liquify image in the form of Smoke
So like this way fill the whole left side of the image by changing the brush , it's size and angle and try to create the best effect , this might take time as it is all about trial and error so do take your time for the best effect (Note : Press CTRL + Z to go a step back )
So now make the top most layer active by clicking on it
Then click on Create new fill or adjustment layer icon and select Gradient map over there and then in the pop up set the Gradient as Violet , Orange
Now reduce the opacity of the layer to 10%
So this will give you your final Smoke Dispersion effect in Photoshop!
